Medical Text Entry Career Training Program

The medical text entry and medical transcription career training difference

Prepare for a rewarding career at a top medical transcription school in New Jersey: StenoTech Career Institute. The 1800-clock-hour Medical Text Entry Program offers a viable career alternative to court reporting students and graduates who have stenotype speed proficiency, a solid background in medical terminology, and strong English skills. Students may enroll at the outset in the Medical Text Entry Program or enter from the Court/Conference Reporting Program with full transfer credit for all completed course work.

Upon successful program completion, students are prepared for a career as a medical language specialist, transcribing medical dictation by means of computer-assisted transcription at two to three times faster than traditional speed. Graduates become a vital member of the healthcare team and are employable in hospitals, medical clinics, laboratories, doctors’ offices, and medical transcription agencies. They may also establish home-based careers as independent medical transcriptionists.

The key difference between the Medical Transcription and Medical Text Entry programs is the stenotype machine. While their course work is nearly identical, Medical Text Entry students are trained to rely on the stenowriter as their main transcription tool to record dense medical material that is later transcribed using computer-assisted transcription software. Medical Transcription students are trained to utilize their knowledge of medical language and high-speed proficiencies on a standard (or QWERTY) keyboard to create the medical record using word processing software such as WordPerfect or Word.
